Hi all, I thought this might be a good place to post my hello. I'm a all Heli guy who's been flying solo for the last 8 months. I'm a newbie to the hobby, though I must say that I've always loved helicopters. In the past 8 months I've managed to collect a rather large number of helicopters, both indoor and out. I am all electric at this point, but I'm really looking hard at a Trex 700 nitro. I have a Trex 600 ESP, a HDX 450 (this is a Trex Clone), a Trex 250, and some 300 size Fixed pitch helis along with numerous palmsize helis.
I would really like to join the club since I live very close. I golf at Adobe Dam and hear the planes roaring all the time. Flying alone at the end of cul de sac has really become tiresome. I really can't do what I want because I'm constantly watching for cars or kids, so it's hard to keep focused. I just joined the AMA at the Electric Flight Expo that was just in town.
Here are some pics of my Helis:
Top to bottom: Trex 600 ESP, HDX 450, Guru-Z Xeon FP, Honey Bee FP (what I trained on), and a Trex 250. The 600 was without electronics in this photo, but I've since added all Hyperion programmable digital servos, a Solid G Gyro, AR6200 receiver. The motor, Speed controller and BEC are all stock. I'm running two 3S 5000 mah lipos connected by a "T" harness. The BEC has its own power which is a 3S 1800 mah lipo.

I'm not the worlds greatest pilot. I like FAI / FC3 style flying. I find the smack down 3D flying cool, but it's just not my favorite way to fly.
Anyway, that's what I'm flying at this point. I hope to meet a talk with some of you soon.

Robby, You might want to stop down some morning and talk with the different pilots at the field. I could be wrong but in the two plus years that I have been flying at AMPS I have not seen a heli flying there. But, that is in the early morning and there may be some at other times of the day. The lack of heli pilots will deprive you of the experience of others in learning about your hobby.

Robby, Lynn's advice is good. Helicopters do not mix well with fixed wing aircraft, in that the members flying aircraft will generally land pretty quickly if there is a chopper flying up and down the runway, hovering, etc. Then the field they paid for can't be used by them. You will progress more quickly in your choice of craft if you fly with other pilots of such craft, and learn the "tricks of the trade".
I also have some concern at your comments that you live nearby and are flying on your street. It could result in frequency interference and a serious crash of an airplane at our field, with perhaps serious injury to other members at the field. It could also result in interference with your chopper which might injure some nearby spectator or homeowner, or damage property.
As Lynn suggested, you might want to come down to the field and speak to one of the officers or directors, or attend the club meeting Tuesday evening, at which you will be welcome.

Hi Robby, Congrats on your new AMA membership. We can sure use more new pilots. I fly on weekdays early in the morning and often see Ron with his fleet of helis..His are all electric and he is getting pretty good. I have seen a couple of fuel types also so there are some heli pilots out and about. Now Ron and myself fly mostly electric, foamies, built up, ARF or whatever you can fit a motor on. I am usually there on Mondays and Wednesdays. So come on down and talk to Ron or John and we would love to chat. We even put up some sailplanes from time to time..It's a blast. Heck, you might even want to get a plane or two.

Thanks John! I'll come down and talk to you anytime. Love to talk to Clair as well and show him my spread spectrum 2.4Ghz DSM2 JRX9303 radio. It has something called model match. I can turn it on without worry about getting or causing interference. With DSM2 the radio searches for an empty channel and uses it. Even if the spectrum is completely full (unlikely), It waits for an open channel before it links up. The biggest electric flight festival in the world, SEFF, has done away with radio impounds, and frequency pins because of this technology. But even if I wasn't using that radio, I'm not sure he'd have to worry because I have a couple of mountains and a few miles between my house and your club.
Anyway John, thanks for the warm welcome. I'd love to fly with you and Ron if not at AMPS, then somewhere. Lynn and Clair are right, I would like to fly with my own kind, even if we fly different aircraft |

Excellent Robby. Just about everyone has at least one 2.4 ghz radio now a days. I think they have only been out for about 3 years but the technology is so good that everyone can see the benefits. That is all that I fly. Ron has some of 2.4 and 72 but you can see at any field or event that 2.4 is takin over .
Anyhow I hope to meet you soon and we can fly planes and helis at one of Ron's "auxillary fields", we have a bunch of them.
Cheers, John |
